Wolf Alice have won this year's Mercury Prize, for the best British album of the year, for 2017's Visions of a Life. The London-based quartet beat out the latest albums by King Krule, Arctic Monkeys, Everything Everything, Noel Gallagher, Florence + the Machine, Lily Allen, Nadine Shah, Everything Is Recorded, and more (the full list of nominees is below).
Beloved acting icon William Shatner (Captain Kirk, T.J. Hooker, and Denny Crane himself), has dabbled in music over the years, perhaps most successfully with Has Been, his 2004 album overseen by Ben Folds that included a cover of Pulp's "Common People" and some memorable and amusing originals. Now Shatner has taken the next illogical step (as Spock might say) in his musical career and recorded a Christmas album.
Arcade Fire have shared a video for "Peter Pan (Equiknoxx Remix)." The original version of the song appeared on the band's last album, Everything Now, which was released in July 2017 via Columbia. Watch it below.

This is the first season where British actress Jodie Whittaker takes over as the first ever female Doctor and the show returns to BBC America on Sunday, October 7.
Tim Booth is right. We're living in extraordinary times. James' new album, its 15th, the title track from which this line is taken, illustrates the concept through songs that alternate between the band's most personal and most political in recent memory.
Gruff Rhys, Welsh frontman of Britpop outliers and survivors Super Furry Animals, released a new solo album, Babelsberg, back in June via Rough Trade. Now he has shared a video for one of the album's highlights, "Selfies in the Sunset." The song is about taking selfies as the world ends and features the guest vocals of actress/model Lily Cole (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Elizabeth I, Star Wars: The Last Jedi). Cole costars with Rhys in the video, as they take selfies and try to find the best cell phone reception while nuclear mushroom clouds explode behind them.
Richard Swift passed away back in July. Now The Hex, a final album from the singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer, has been announced and it's due out digitally tomorrow (September 21) via Secretly Canadian. There will be a physical release on December 7. The album's first single, "Sept20," has been shared, fittingly on its namesake date.
On only their third full-length in the last decade Beak>, the Bristol trio led by Portishead's Geoff Barrow, meld their overt Krautrock obsessions with a slice of subdued psychedelia. Spotted with muffled, R. Stevie Moore-like vocals and bathed in warm, low electronica, >>> holds some of the band's most immersive and enveloping material to date.
If there was any doubt over whether Californian punks Joyce Manor would continue in the poppy direction they were going in after 2016's Cody, there is surely none now on their latest effort Million Dollars to Kill Me. Their fifth album sees the band at their most straight-up pop/rock, but also at their most mature, ageing their sound like a fine wine in comparison to their scrappy, beer-and-pizza soaked opening triad of records.
Florence + the Machine (aka Florence Welch and backing band) released a new album, High As Hope, back in June via Republic. Now she has done a session for Spotify where she covers Tori Amos' "Cornflake Girl" (from Amos' 1994 album Under the Pink).

It was one of our Top 100 Albums of 2017 and one of our Top 15 Debut Albums of 2017. Now she has shared a video for "Deep Space," a bonus track from the deluxe edition of the album.

Now they have shared another track from the album, "Last Year (feat. GoldLink) (Terrace Martin Version)," via a trippy animated video.
Los Angeles singer/songwriter Phoebe Bridgers released her debut album, Stranger in the Alps, back in September 2017 via Dead Oceans. Now, a year later, she has stopped by Conan to make her late night TV debut and perform the album's "Motion Sickness."
