Crowned as East Africa’s mother of rap, Mc Sharon is yet to announce when to drop the mic but not as soon as her loyalists and fans may want to coz it is only time she once again emancipated with a new album and yea her fifth studio album.
MC Sharon, also known by her other monikers Decibelle or Alshaverb Mama Yao is a veteran talent from Nairobi, Kenya; having been in the music business for the better part of her planetary existence. The singer, rapper, producer and writer who originally hails from Muhoroni township epitomizes a gritty blend of conscious hip hop, Afro soul, unapologetic lyricism, feminist pride and tones of attitude.
Hers is an unparalleled, passion-filled quest for life-changing sound and prose intertwined into little artistic gifts for the world's enjoyment.
She has just completed her fifth studio project called GEMS. The word GEMS means more to her than the denotative precious stones.
“It refers to a Genetically Emancipated Musical Soul as evidenced in my transitional journey through the world of sound and beyond. From a girl to a woman, a woman to a queen and finally queen to goddess,” comments Mc Sharon
The 20 track music project is a sufficient depiction of her process. She is the executive producer, co-engineer and co-director of the whole project; supported by various global producers and engineers who have ensured that her vision came to life.
These include the main sound engineer and music producer Michael Miheso Itebete (KENYA), Fred Fisher (Omnibeats LLC), Donovan Jarvis and co at Fivestar Beats (USA), Onetone (USA), the whole crew at Exclusive Rap Beats and/or 20dollarbeats,(USA) Rudeboy Cabana aka Outspoken (USA), Mohjay Mohteaching (KENYA/Germany) among others.
She has also featured Kash Grindhauz, Trabolee, Six Foot, Kev Mamba, Hiram Kamau, Black Spear and her very own son Jabali Tulani. All these talented young men have added a spicy balance to the already broad spectral piece of work.
Kutupanga was the first single off this project and there are many more important videos and singles lined up to back it up.
GEMS like all the projects before it is raw, gritty, honest, controversial, spiritual, melodic, hardcore and fun all in one. From tackling politics on ‘Kutupanga’, to love on Leo Loving, to straight city bars on Nairobi block the overall versatility in GEMS is amazing.

BrainPain is the upcoming EP from HeadAche, a four-piece band from Hertfordshire, England, who play music that has been described as ‘Punk Metal’. BrainPain has been produced by renowned punk rock producer Andy J. Davies, known for his work with bands such as S*M*A*S*H and Guns ‘N’ Wankers. Davies has honed the band’s sound, which fuses classic rock elements such as power chords played on heavily distorted downtuned guitars but with a shiny accessible studio polish, and vocal melodies that are more akin to pop music than hardcore punk or heavy metal. The vocals alternate between the raspy grain of rhythm guitarist Johnny Bannister and the softer more dulcet tones of lead guitarist Michael Button. The guitar work is always rooted in the core of simplicity, with the driving force behind most of the songs being the churning basslines of Jay Majer and the intricate force of Leon Parson’s drumming.

‘August J’, the music band from Kyiv, released its second EP ‘A Long Way to Come Alive‘.
“After the release of EP 1, which had many references to our favorite bands, we decided that it’s time to search for our own sound. And we hope that we’ve succeeded“, – says Sergey Boussyghin, the bass guitarist.
“The basis of this mini-album is the assumption that when the person is born, it does not come to life, it is not disclosed. You need to go through a series of difficult tests to fully recover, it can take even decades. But this is the only way to feel yourself full-fledged “- says Eldar Efimenko, the guitarist.
“This EP is a story about the formation of man as a person. Each song carries a message related to this topic. Care has a rhythmic melody with hip-hop elements about falsehood and victory over it, Wires and Waves is a fast song inspired by the 80’s synths and tells us about disadvantages of technology, which won’t let us see humanity in ourselves. The Swing is about doubts and an attempt to find a balance between gregarious instinct and the preservation and defending our own “I”. Star Walk is a space ballade about love and a comparison of the most mysterious feelings to the infinity of the Universe “- comments frontman of the group Gleb Korostylev.
August J were formed in 2015. The team has one mini-album, a video clip on the Cold Touch track, and performances at several Kyiv festivals. In early October, a video single “Wires and Waves” was released. The band has been experimenting for a couple of years and chose the electronic sound, which reflects the essence of the group in their opinion.

Theleastimportant, born Fundokuhle Xulu in Pietermaritzburg South Africa, is a young talented creative. Thematically theleastimportant keeps a dark and somewhat mysterious undertone throughout his lyrical compositions. his 1st lyrical breakthrough would be his song Shot Face that at the time was a lyrical representation of his early life. In 2016 he released a five track EP, deleting two of his songs later on in the year leaving three compositions. The EP gained a lot of attention generating more exposure for the young artist. later on in the same year we heard a transition in the rappers style, from a strict lyrical nature to something more experimental and alternative. Following these events came a two track EP, titled Lucid Screaming where he tells us about his struggles in the industry and his motivation to continue. Prior to this we hadn’t heard this much emotion from the artist. Later, his work ‘Suspect’, containing less dark subject matter along with a sense of self appreciation, shows us a happier side to the artist, how far he has come in the industry and the improvement in his lyrical compositions. Not only does he rap but he also produces under a confused Asian character by the name Choji Akogawa. This character was introduced to us in Torpid, a single that was produced under this allies. Choji contains airy and electro synthesizers with a combination of old-school boom-bap drum loops. the latest signs of Choji come in the form of a six track EP titled ‘Choji’s Tape’. in this EP he gives us an alternative side to his sound, bringing a more glitch feel along with electronic instruments that we’ve come to recognize from his earlier works. The young artists music can be related to that of an old school Tyler, the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples, MF DOOM, DeathGrips, JPEGMAFIA and countless others with similar influence. His lazy ‘back-pack rapper’ style is infused with raw, harsh lyrics accompanied by futuristic and expiramental beats.

Gena Perala releases a haunting new single Good Girl on the 20th of February. Reuniting with long-time producer Chris Gestrin, the two have a powerful connection, moving seamlessly through genres and sounds, creating dark melodies enhanced by Perala’s sultry vocals and intensely honest lyrics. Good Girl opens with beautiful yet ominous “ooohs” and “ahhhs” setting the tone before getting straight to the point: “She’s too good for you and you know it’s true. I think it’s killing you, instead you’re killing her, murderer, murderer, murderer.” With a voice that is both warm and chilling, Perala creates a style all her own – soft yet strong. “The song is about an abusive relationship and ultimately how every day my friend stayed in this relationship, it was killing her,” Perala explains. “But it’s important to understand how complicated and wrapped up in our past these situations are, so the song is also about the enabling that went on with the abuse and then my own helplessness and anger around men fucking with women, especially when those women are my best friends.” The visual single premier is an eerie depiction of the artist floating in water surrounded by darkness and at times drowning. Dancers writhing underneath fabric represent the relationship eliciting visuals as unnerving as they are interesting. “Sometimes we know something isn’t good for us and we know we need to get away but we just can’t. Like there’s a force outside ourselves, the fabric drawing us together or the water drowning us and no matter how hard we try, we just can’t get out, Perala says, shedding light on some of the unsettling yet stunning imagery in the video. Good Girl is the first of a string of releases Perala plans for 2018. It is bit of a departure from her last album (Exactly Nowhere, 2014): Perala trades in her piano for a synthesizer and her drummer for a drum machine. Good Girl is a minimal down-tempo electronic synth song that flirts with pop elements. Perala’s upcoming releases will feature more of this electronic sound: “Going into the studio I had very specific ideas of what I wanted and co-produced the songs with Chris Gestrin. I love working with Chris anyway but he was the perfect person for this project since his studio is literally packed with synths and drum machines, a lot of them from the 80’s, he loves that stuff so a great fit for the poppy sounds I was going for. He’s also just really good at making my ideas a reality.” Good Girl leans more towards avant-garde pop but then again, Gena Perala is pretty avant-garde herself.
