Randy Rogers Band Caps 2021 With Big Honors
countrymusicnewsblog.com Tuesday, 7 December 2021 01:46:10
Texas Country mainstays Randy Rogers Band have had a big year in 2021, capping off their calendar with a notable honor for frontman Randy Rogers, who was selected as the honorary Grand Marshal of the 2022 Texas Cavaliers River Parade. The annual event will take place on April 4 and this year’s theme is “Texas Alfresco,” or “Texas Outdoors,” which will be on display via the floats and decorations. “There’s never been a better time to celebrate our Texas outdoor quality of life and education for children and our community than during these challenging times,” Rogers said at a press conference when the honor was announced. In September, Rogers had another personal achievement to celebrate when he launched his new whiskey brand, Bahnbrëcker, the world’s first Hefeweizen-style whiskey. The drink was inspired by an ideal Texas summer day spent floating down the river in New Braunfels, Texas and can be found in select Texas venues and retail establishments with nationwide shipping available. Rogers and bandmates Geoffrey Hill (guitar), Jon Richardson (bass guitar), Brady Black (fiddle), Les Lawless (drums), and Todd Stewart (guitar, fiddle, mandolin, keyboards), are currently on the road, traveling the country supporting Cody Jinks and with a series of headline shows extending into January 2022. That month, the group will headline The MusicFest (1/7) and Mile 0 Fest (1/28) and will share the stage with George Strait and Willie Nelson for a two-night stint in Austin, Texas on April 29 and April 30. Randy Rogers Band’s latest road run is concurrent with the release of their most recent single, “Picture Frames,” which arrived in October and is currently in the Top 10 on the Texas Country Music Chart. Written by Rogers with Drew Kennedy and produced by hit Country songwriter and artist Radney Foster, the “timeless song of enduring love” (Billboard) finds the group reminiscing about fond memories they’ve shared with the one they love while looking at photos on a smartphone. “Picture Frames” is the first taste of music from the band’s upcoming album, which is due in the spring and will celebrate Randy Rogers Band’s 20th anniversary. The as-yet-unannounced project will follow the group’s eighth studio album, 2019’s HELLBENT.

After a COVID-related pause, the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME began to get caught up last night (11/21) with a gala ceremony inducting its class of 2020, songwriter DEAN DILLON and artist/writers MARTY STUART and HANK WILLIAMS JR. The ceremony, held at the CMA THEATER inside the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM, was highlighted by little moments, two of them involving 1997 inductee BRENDA LEE. After rising star BRITTNEY SPENCER brought the house down with her tribute to DILLON, performing his song, “TENNESSEE Whiskey,” LEE shouted out from the audience in appreciate of SPENCER, “Let’s all go home. I give up. I quit.” Later, inductee WILLIAMS drew laughs when he dropped to his knees onstage so that the diminutive LEE could place the HALL OF FAME medallion around his neck. The inductees were honored with surprise performances from several superstars, with KENNY CHESNEY and GEORGE STRAIT separately paying tribute to DILLON, and ERIC CHURCH and ALAN JACKSON each honoring WILLIAMS. Additionally, SHOOTER JENNINGS performed as part of the WILLIAMS tribute, while EMMYLOU HARRIS and CHARLIE WORSHAM joined forces in tribute to STUART, who was also honored in song by ASHLEY McBRYDE. The third performer honoring STUART was TUNICA, MS Pastor EVELYN HUBBARD, a family friend. All of the performers sang songs written by or made famous by the night’s honorees. In addition to LEE, who presented WILLIAMS with his medallion, STRAIT did the honors for DILLON, and STUART received his medallion from his wife and fellow HALL OF FAME member CONNIE SMITH. The ceremony was hosted by COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME CEO KYLE YOUNG. The HALL OF FAME’s class of 2021, members-elect EDDIE BAYERS, RAY CHARLES, PETE DRAKE and THE JUDDS, will be inducted next year.
