  • Morgan Wallen Dishes About Dark Days on SiriusXM’s ‘The Highway’ Wednesday, 29 June 2022 21:39:59

Morgan Wallen sat down with SiriusXM’s Storme Warren to discuss his music, including his current single “You Proof” and much more. During their conversation, Morgan Wallen opening up about how he is grateful for his growth as a man since last year. Wallen revealing how things “got pretty dark,” but he is now “happy as I’ve ever been,” and spoke on his friendship with Eric Church. SiriusXM’s The Storme Warren Show airs on SiriusXM’s The Highway weekday mornings. Morgan Wallen’s interview with SiriusXM’s Storme Warren aired today. Storme Warren: How big is the word gratitude in your life right now? Morgan Wallen: It’s real big, man. I got a lot of, a lot of great things going on, you know, I’m probably, I think I’m happy as I’ve ever been. I can honestly say that. And I don’t know if, I mean, obviously I’ve been, I’ve had a lot of success, which, you know, doesn’t hurt when it comes to that. But it’s, I don’t know. I’m just in a really good place mentally. I got my little boy. I got my family. I, I don’t know, man. Everything is really good for me right now. So, I, gratitude is at the top of the, of my vocabulary. Storme Warren: I think you could sum it up best. We, we don’t have to keep going around in circles about it, but I think you summed it up beautifully on the ACM Awards who you won for album of the year. That analogy that you said saying, “Hey, last year I was a boy. Now I’m a father and a man and a lot has changed.” Morgan Wallen: Yeah, no doubt. I mean that, that speech I, I gave there was, was from my heart. It was true. I think I wrote it that morning and just kind of let whatever I felt come out, you know, um, pretty fresh, but yeah, it’s, it’s definitely true. Everyone, a lot of people around me are like, “man, you know, you’re a lot different than you were even a year ago or whatever,” you know, and it’s just, I’m glad to hear that, cause that’s something that I was, it it’s not on accident, you know? I’ve worked on it. I’ve tried. And I’m glad to see some of the fruits of, of my labor come, come to come to pass. Storme Warren: And as your friend I’ve watched you from the first time we met at ACMs in Vegas, you came in after a nice little run and… Morgan Wallen: You could say that, for sure. Storme Warren: A few day run. Yeah. And came in and that was our very first meeting and our first interview. Yeah. And I was like, “man, this guy’s gonna be a very interesting thing to watch.” I didn’t know how right I was. Morgan Wallen: You definitely, if that’s, if you said interesting, that was definitely, I think that was a tame way of putting Continue reading Morgan Wallen Dishes About Dark Days on SiriusXM’s ‘The Highway’

  • Celebrating Stoney Edwards Wednesday, 29 June 2022 20:30:58

If you’ve never heard the song “Cute Lil Waitress” then you don’t know the simple fun and joy of Stoney Edwards’ contribution to country music. Living among the legends of yesterday, Stoney Edwards was an often overlooked stellar songwriter who couldn’t get a fair shake if he tried. Now the music industry is doing its’ best to rectify that oversight. Though the Cliff Notes version of the Stoney Edwards story portrays him as country music’s other Black star of the 70’s, his heritage was even more complex than that. Though his dad Rescue “Bub” Edwards was Black, he also had Irish in his blood. Stoney’s mother Ollie “Red” Edwards was Native American. Born on Christmas Eve 1929 in Seminole County, Oklahoma, Stoney once told historian Peter Guralnick, “I was never really accepted by any race. Sometimes I wished I was black as a skillet or white as a damned sheet, but the way I am it’s always been a motherf***er.” Stoney Edwards’ personal story filled with the struggle, grit, courage and heart is what  has long been the basis for songs that have shaped country music. He was among the early black country music artists to find success and the first black country singer-songwriter signed to Capitol Nashville in the 1970s. With 2022 marking the 25th year since his passing, UMG Nashville/UMe concludes Black Music Month and honors Stoney Edwards with the streaming debut of all six of his acclaimed 1971-1976 Capitol Records’ albums. Down Home In The Country, A Country Singer, Stoney Edwards, She’s My Rock, Mississippi You’re On My Mind and Blackbird have been remastered from original analog tapes. Stoney Edwards had 15 charting singles across his six Capitol Records albums and two top-20 hits “She’s My Rock” and “Mississippi You’re On My Mind,” available to stream/download here: Although his country music career began later in life, Stoney Edwards brought classic twang to his deeply personal lyrics such as “last night a two dollar toy made a million dollar daddy out of me,” the opening track and his first single, “A Two Dollar Toy,” from his debut album, A Country Singer. Also from his debut, “A Few of the Reasons” is a romantic ode with “Your love was there when everything else was gone….” Hailed by critics from Nashville to London, The Nashville Scene praised him as “A wonderful country vocalist and a highly entertaining songwriter who tirelessly beat the bushes on Music Row in the early and mid-’70s. His style interspersed bits of Lefty Frizzell, Merle Haggard, and Hank Williams with his deep, coarse, yet ingratiating delivery.” The Guardian stated, “the former trucker’s recordings were regarded as crying-into-your-beer classics.…” In addition, country stalwart Billy Ray Cyrus, who narrated a new video about Stoney Edwards, said “I was captivated and mesmerized by this story. He opened the door for so many great talents to follow their dreams in country music. “ Discover Stoney Edwards, HERE: Stoney Edwards — Down Home In The Country [Digital] Dixie Boy Mama’s Continue reading Celebrating Stoney Edwards

  • Rising Country Artist Curt ChambersReleases Moving Video for Single “Say My Name” Wednesday, 29 June 2022 20:13:15

Grammy-Nominated Country Artist Curt Chambers Releases Music Video For New Single “Say My Name,” which was premiered exclusively on CMT. Curt Chambers’ music video for his newest single “Say My Name,” will cut deep as you recount all the memories, good and bad, you’ve had with your mother throughout your life. This touching song speaks about how Curt has reflected on his childhood filled with mischief, and how he recalls the irritated tone of his mom saying his full name. The simple instrumental of his smooth melodious voice paired with an acoustic guitar allows his message to be heard: that he aims to change the way his mom says his name in a proud and positive light.  We get to see his message come to life as the video flashes between Curt as a squirrely child, to him now with a guitar in hand. The flashbacks of him as a kid hitting everything with drumsticks and running around by the playground not only allows us to see this childhood craziness, but is a reminder for all the times we too have been in those situations. The glimpses of his mother reprimanding him are extremely relatable and recall the want to better ourselves and the relationships around us as we grow and become wiser with time; especially the relationship with our mother. Curt Chambers’ “Say My Name” is the perfect song as it isn’t only just a tribute to his mom, but is a story of becoming a better person through a mother’s love.  “I wanted to write this song because when I was a kid I got in trouble all the time. I got suspended from school once a week and was the name you heard at church all the time. “Curtis did it” is what you always heard. As I got older I decided that I wanted to change how she called my name to a more positive light. I find myself wanting to make her proud not only from my accomplishments but how I serve love to every human. I thought this was perfect for Mother’s Day.” – Curt Chambers Curt Chambers

  • ACM Lifting Lives Music Camp Returns to Nashville and In-Person Friday, 24 June 2022 22:11:50

ACM Lifting Lives®, the philanthropic arm of the Academy of Country Music® hosted the 13th Annual ACM Lifting Lives® Music Camp with Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17, with 23 campers from all around the U.S. and Canada. Music Camp is a week-long residential program for individuals with Williams syndrome, a genetic condition (see MORE section for additional information), who are passionate about music. Campers participated in a week of in-person activities for the first time since 2019, starting with the writing of an original song, and culminating with performing the song on the Grand Ole Opry. Stars who joined the campers throughout the week include singer/vocal coach Jason Catron, Lindsay Ell, Hannah Ellis, Filmore, Walker Hayes, singer-songwriter Josh Jenkins, Restless Road, Rod + Rose, Runaway June, Dylan Schneider, and musician/guitar teacher Marty Schwartz. ACM Lifting Lives® Music Camp has a dual purpose of studying Williams syndrome while providing music enrichment through performance and education. This year, campers started the week by co-writing a song called “Reunion” with Ross Copperman, Walker Hayes, and Josh Jenkins to mark the occasion of seeing each other in person for the first time since before COVID. After the campers rehearsed the song with the help of Hannah Ellis and had their vocal cords warmed up by Jason Catron, they recorded the song with Runaway June, and performed the song on the Friday night Opry with Filmore. Throughout the week, campers were able to explore parts of Nashville and get an inside look at the music industry. To help celebrate the Bluebird Cafe’s 40th birthday, campers gathered at the venue, signed a birthday card for the Bluebird, and with the help of Lindsay Ell, sang happy birthday to the venue. Ell then answered questions from the campers and performed songs for them from the Bluebird stage. Other highlights include media training with Restless Road and Dylan Schneider with the help of Seacrest Studios at The Listening Room, karaoke with Rod + Rose (Rodney Atkins and Rose Falcon) at Winners Bar and Grill, and a behind-the-scenes look at how Gibson guitars are made at the Gibson Garage with a guitar lesson from Marty Schwartz. “To have all of our campers back in the same room celebrating their love for music and each other was an inspiring experience,” said Lyndsay Cruz, ACM Lifting Lives Executive Director. “The song they wrote, recorded, and performed called ‘Reunion’ perfectly captured the feeling of this year’s camp. Their positive energy and excitement of being together again rubbed off on all of the special guests that joined Music Camp. We are so thankful to each artist and the Country Music community who helped make this camp so special after a two year in-person hiatus.”  The camp is a partnership between ACM Lifting Lives® and Vanderbilt Kennedy Center. ACM Lifting Lives® funds the costs of the camp in addition to providing scholarships to several campers, enabling the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center to advance its mission of improving the lives of Continue reading ACM Lifting Lives Music Camp Returns to Nashville and In-Person

  • Out Now: Trixie Mattel Drops Double LP ‘The Blonde & Pink Albums’ Friday, 24 June 2022 21:54:15

Today, Trixie Mattel has reasserted herself as one of the most exciting modern day pop culture pillars and important current voices in queer music with the release of her double LP ‘The Blonde & Pink Albums’ via PEG Records. Inspired by Trixie’s fascination with duality, specifically the juxtaposition of her glamorous, serious side with her fun-loving, carefree side, ‘The Blonde & Pink Albums’ will usher in a new sonic era for the beloved chart-topping superstar. Listen HERE. The double collection is a tour de force from the drag legend, songwriter and musician, who balances the heartfelt folk that made her a pioneer of the modern queer country revolution with the plugged-in, fuzzy alt rock of her recent musical releases which call to mind Fountains of Wayne, The Donnas, and The Go-Go’s (three artists Trixie sites as major inspirations). She recently supported the album drop by making her late night television performance debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where she, with the help of Shakey Graves, brought to life album cut “This Town”, a haunting folk reflection on small town life which Rolling Stone called a “song you need to know”. Watch the performance HERE. ‘The Blonde & Pink Albums’ also features sister tracks “Hello Hello” (that Esquire said “meets at the crossroads of surf and garage rock, echoing the addictive, shout-til-you-drop hooks of West Coast music titans the Go Gos”) and “C’mon Loretta” (which tells the story of Loretta Lynn and was called “the rock-countryish bop we didn’t know we needed” by Teen Vogue).  Elsewhere on the album finds Mattel stripping down the iconic The Go-Go’s’ classic “Vacation” to its haunting, melancholic center, while elsewhere collaborating with her longtime musical idol Michelle Branch, and overall on the double LP embracing the dynamic power of writing sugary rock tracks with unexpectedly dark origins. ‘The Blonde & Pink Albums’ will showcase the musical evolution of an artist who has not only broken down boundaries within the music world, but also the mainstream pop culture universe.  Trixie recently premiered her reality renovation show Trixie Motel (via discovery+) which features her new track “Stay The Night” as its theme song,  partnered with Fender, worked with Integrity Toys to release the “Trixie” doll, was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for her “One Night Only” comedy special, announced a second book with her comedic partner Katya, and appeared as one of the judges for the hit Paramount+ Queen of the Universe singing competition alongside Michelle Visage, Leona Lewis and Vanessa Williams. These accomplishments alone showcase an artist who has not only a near-limitless arsenal of talents, but an unshakeable ambition to take over the world.  The drag legend has also blossomed within the worlds of cosmetics (her self-started Trixie Cosmetics company regularly releases quick-to-sell-out new items), blogging (the GOOPED newsletter with Katya via Substrack), writing (Trixie and Katya’s Guide to Modern Womanhood was a NY Times Best-Seller), podcasting (The Bald and The Beautiful is a Queerty Award-winner), digital content creation (her multiple web endeavors recently won Continue reading Out Now: Trixie Mattel Drops Double LP ‘The Blonde & Pink Albums’

  • Country Music Hall Of Fame To Open New Exhibit On L.A. Country-Rock Friday, 24 June 2022 21:43:39

The COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM’s next major exhibition will be “Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of LOS ANGELES Country-Rock.” The exhibit, to open SEPTEMBER 30th for a nearly three-year run in the museum’s newly revamped gallery, was announced YESTERDAY (6/22) with two separate events at the TROUBADOUR in LOS ANGELES and the museum’s FORD THEATER in NASHVILLE. A press release said that the exhibit “will examine the close-knit communities of LOS ANGELES-based singers, songwriters and musicians who, from the 1960s through the 1980s, embraced Country music, frequented local nightclubs, and created and shaped the musical fusion known as ‘Country-Rock’ – ultimately making an indelible and lasting impact on popular music.” Artists featured in the exhibit will include THE BYRDS, BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD, THE FLYING BURRITO BROTHERS, POCO, EAGLES, EMMYLOU HARRIS, NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND, and LINDA RONSTADT. The announcement was accompanied by performances from DWIGHT YOAKAM and CHRIS HILLMAN in LOS ANGELES, and EMMYLOU HARRIS, JEFF HANNA, and MATRACA BERG in NASHVILLE. “A new hybrid sound grew from humble beginnings in a few small L.A. nightclubs and quickly emerged as one of the most popular musical styles across the world,” said museum CEO KYLE YOUNG. “Inspired by the likes of BOB DYLAN and the BEATLES, these artists and musicians also found community in their appreciation of traditional Country, Folk and Bluegrass music. They built on this foundation, crafting songs of uncommon lyrical depth and layered musical richness – adding new textures to rock sounds that resulted in a completely original form of American music.”
