Six-time GRAMMY-winner AMY GRANT will perform her 90s smash, “Good For Me” on THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW today, Monday, October 18th. The track was the fourth consecutive Top Five Adult Contemporary single and Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 single.  THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW is produced and distributed by NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, and is the highest rated talk show to debut in seven years. To find out where to watch, visit https://www.kellyclarksonshow.com/exclusives/where-to-watch. Earlier this summer, Grant released the double disc, 30th anniversary editon of her iconic, 5x platinum album, Heart In Motion, and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (NaSHOF) Class of 2021.   Grant is currently on the last few weeks of a 42 city fall tour, performing songs that span her four-decade long career, including hits from Heart In Motion to celebrate its milestone anniversary.  In early December, Grant will do several Christmas shows with Michael W. Smith, followed by her and husband Vince Gill’s annual Christmas at the Ryman Residency.  For all tour details and information, please visit AmyGrant.com. About Amy Grant:Amy Grant’s career spans more than 40 years and stretches from her roots in gospel into becoming an iconic pop star, songwriter, television personality and philanthropist. With three multi-platinum albums, six platinum albums and four gold albums, her total career album sales have exceeded 30 million and over 1 billion global streams. Grant’s chart success has been consistent throughout her career with six No. 1 hits, 10 Top 40 pop singles, 17 Top 40 Adult Contemporary tracks and multiple Contemporary Christian chart-toppers. In addition to her six GRAMMY® Awards, Grant has earned 26 Dove Awards (including four Artist of the Year Awards) and has been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as well as the Music City Walk of Fame and the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. Conventional wisdom has it that Grant put Contemporary Christian Music on the map becoming the first Contemporary Christian artist to have a platinum record, the first to hit No. 1 on the Pop charts and the first to perform at the GRAMMY® Awards. With that, her legacy as one of the most influential artists of the past four decades is assured. In April of 2016, Grant celebrated the 25th anniversary of her iconic hit “Baby Baby” with a worldwide release of the song featuring pop sensation Tori Kelly. Tennessee Christmas released in late 2016 and marked Grant’s first all-new holiday album in nearly 20 years. Last February, The T.J. Martell Foundation – the music industry’s leading nonprofit to fund innovative medical research focused on treatments and cures for cancer – honored Grant with the Tony Martell Outstanding Entertainment Achievement Award at their 2020 Honors Gala. 2021 finds Grant celebrating her iconic, 5x platinum album, Heart In Motion, releasing a double disc 35th Anniversary Edition on July 9 that includes never before released tracks and updated remixes of the hit singles. • Ryan Hurd tells Apple Music about his debut album ‘Pelago,’ going from songwriter to recording artist, and more on Today’s Country Radio

    countrymusicnewsblog.com Saturday, 16 October 2021 19:28:00

Ryan Hurd joins Kelleigh Bannen on Today’s Country Radio to discuss his journey of going from a Nashville songwriter to recording artist, and, ultimately, releasing his debut album ‘Pelago.’ They also chat about the origin of his massive hit “Chasing After You” featuring his wife, Maren Morris. Ryan Hurd on Recording “Chasing After You”This song was like Music Row famous for a long time… And, [the songwriters] Brinley [Addington] and Jerry [Flowers] would sing it at rounds and then artists would hold it and promise to record it. And, that’s just how it goes sometimes. That’s the game we play as a writer and somehow it fell to me and I still look back on it. And I’m like, “I have no idea how of all the people in town,” this song, it was upon my shoulders to put it out. Because, the demo is exactly like what you hear in in the master. It’s that cool. You hear it and you’re just hooked and we’re just really lucky to have been gifted this amazing, amazing life-changing piece of art. Ryan Hurd on “What Are You Drinking” Feeling Like the Most Important Song on His AlbumThe other song on this record, that’s outside is “What Are You Drinking.” And, I just got sent that I was on a beach in Mexico and Aaron [Eshuis] wrote it with Troy Cartwright and Andy Albert. And he sent it to me. He’s like, “Check this out.” He never sends me anything and I listened to it and Troy’s singing it. And I texted Troy immediately and just said, “If you’re not going to cut this, somebody is, and it might be me. So I need to know if you’re okay with that. I need to know before I even talked to Aaron about this and you should ask yourself if you’re okay with somebody else having this.” And, I can’t imagine not having that song on this record. It wouldn’t be… Every single song is important, but that one to me feels like the most important one for whatever reason. Ryan Hurd on ‘Pelago’ and Its Place In Country MusicI think that I’ve grown a lot since I started writing. I’ve grown a lot since I’ve been trying to have my own project. And this is sort of that first combination where you’re like, “If this is the only thing people ever hear from me, I’m okay with it.” And this is the stamp I want to put on this moment. This is a stamp I want to put on me, my name. And you know, when people look back on country music in this time, maybe they’ll remember this record a little bit. And this is my little piece of that history, whether it’s big or small. I’m okay with it. And I’m really just psyched for people to hear it. And I hope they like it.

  • Weekend Listening: Jason Boland and the Stragglers – The Light Saw Me – Title Track from New Album

    countrymusicnewsblog.com Friday, 15 October 2021 19:37:00

Renowned singer-songwriter Jason Boland announced his eccentric sci-fi concept album The Light Saw Me, released December 3 via Thirty Tigers. Produced by GRAMMY award-winner, Shooter Jennings, it blends country influences from across the cosmos. Crunchy guitars, psychedelic pedal steel and roaring fiddles soundtrack his vivid sci-fi storytelling. Boland recounts the tale of a cowboy living in Texas in the late 1890s who is abducted by aliens and thrust into the future by a century, returning in the 1990s with no perception that any time has passed, searching for his wife who is no longer of this world. Boland debuted title track and video for “The Light Saw Me,” which he premiered via FLOOD MAGAZINE who praised the new record and whilst referencing the movie Cowboys & Aliens,  stated, “While the title track from Jason Boland’s newly unveiled LP with The Stragglers may share the general premise of this over-the-top sci-fi blockbuster, in a way he kind of flips the idea on its head.” A pacy rock country exploration with a lithe guitar lick and Boland’s vocal croon introducing us to the album’s central character, the cowboy and his first life changing extraterrestrial encounter. Discussing the track, Boland stated, “The Light Saw Me as a song and album which aims to highlight our lack of ultimate control over our narratives. So much of what happens in our lives seems to choose us in spite of our grand plans.” Producer Shooter Jennings added, “Jason is one of my dearest friends and, in my opinion, one of the smartest and coolest dudes I know. He was the first person to ask me to produce their record and many years ago we had a great time making “Dark and Dirty Mile”.  So it was natural for me to be more than excited to be asked to produce The Light Saw Me.  This album isn’t just another album from Jason & The Stragglers. It’s a magnum opus of the highest creative order, which in turn I take as a very serious honor to be able to be a part of its inception.” He added, “Jason and the band were a delight and Jason’s vision from the album served as our lodestar as we carried it from cradle to its proper spot on the mountain high. It’s one of the coolest sounding records I’ve heard in years, so I’m really excited to see what the future holds for The Light Saw Me.” Drawing inspiration from podcasts including Desert Oracle Radio, the album boldly attempts to simultaneously address existential questions, from the meaning of life to more personal reflections on love and loss. Beneath Bolands sensational sci-fi narrative lies an allegory. He explains, “the deeper meaning of the material is “meaning” itself. When faced with the stoic realities of our collective fate, love is the source of the power that can keep us going.”  Boland also announced the first leg of his U.S. tour with dates including Tulsa’s beloved Cain’s Ballroom, New Braunfels’ Gruene Hall, Nashville’s famed Continue reading Weekend Listening: Jason Boland and the Stragglers – The Light Saw Me – Title Track from New Album

  • Steve Holy’s ‘A Christmas To Remember’ Out October 22, 2021

    countrymusicnewsblog.com Friday, 15 October 2021 18:49:00

Steve Holy returns to the studio for the first time in nearly a decade to release ‘A Christmas To Remember,’ available Fri., Oct. 22 via Thrill Hill Records. Known for his multi-week No.1 singles “Brand New Girlfriend” and “Good Morning Beautiful” — a song released in 2000 that went on to become one of the decade’s most played songs on country radio — the Texas native will ring in the holidays with a 10-track album chock-full of festive favorites and one yuletide original. “I haven’t been in the studio in almost 8 years,” says Holy. “And, I couldn’t be more excited to share new music with everyone and celebrate my favorite holiday!” Holy stamps his signature, southern spin on seasonal staples ranging from Bing Crosby’s poetic “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” to Elvis Presley’s merry classic “Santa Claus Is Back In Town” and “Bringing In A Brand New Year,” a ‘60s swing by Charles Brown.  The album’s title track and sole original, written by Sam Hunter (who also played guitar on the album) and his father Joe, is a highlight on the project with its reminder to focus on the true reason for the season — spending much-needed time with loved ones around the holidays — which is something that won’t be taken for granted this year, as many will gather together in holiday celebration for the first time since 2019. “A lot of thought went into the way we sequenced this record. Starting with ‘A Christmas To Remember,’ about spending time with loved ones and ending with my all-time favorite holiday song, ‘If Every Day Was Like Christmas’ which is really an optimist’s prayer, were conscious decisions to remind all of us what is important this time of year.” Fans can pre-save ‘A Christmas To Remember‘ HERE and keep up with what’s coming from Steve Holy by visiting steveholymusic.com. ‘A Christmas To Remember’ Tracklist: 1. A Christmas To Remember (writers: Sam Hunter, Joe Hunter) 2. Let It Snow (originally recorded by Vaughn Monroe) 3. Here Comes Santa Claus (originally recorded by Gene Autry) 4. • Kacey Musgraves’ ‘star-crossed’ Ruled Ineligible For Best Country Album Grammy

    countrymusicnewsblog.com Thursday, 14 October 2021 21:11:08

KACEY MUSGRAVES’ latest album, “star-crossed,” is ineligible for consideration in the GRAMMY AWARDS Country album category. BILLBOARD broke that news today, reporting that UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP NASHVILLE Pres. CINDY MABE fired off a letter of protest to RECORDING ACADEMY CEO HARVEY MASON. The decision about how to categorize “star-crossed,” which was jointly released on SEPTEMBER 10th by UMG NASHVILLE and INTERSCOPE RECORDS, “was made last week during the RECORDING ACADEMY’s annual screening committee meeting, where submissions are reviewed to make sure they are placed in the appropriate category,” BILLBOARD reports. “Members of the screening committees can reject recordings if they do not feel they fit into the genre, though they remain eligible for the all-genre Album of the Year category.” In her letter to MASON, which BILLBOARD obtained, MABE calls the committee’s decision on the album’s status “very inconsistent” and said it “calls into question the other agendas that were part of this decision.” She added that removing MUSGRAVES from the Country category, “actually does harm to a format struggling with change and inclusivity overall.” According to BILLBOARD, “She further accuses the members of the screening committee of playing politics,” writing, “The idea that a handful of people including competitors, who would benefit from KACEY not being in the Country category, are deciding what is Country only exacerbates the problem. The system is broken and sadly not just for KACEY MUSGRAVES, but for our entire genre because of how these decisions are made for music’s biggest stage. Building roadblocks for artists who dare to fight the system is so dangerous and against everything I think the GRAMMYS stand for. But that’s where we are today.” Read her whole letter below. Despite the committee’s decision about the album, track “Camera Roll” was “submitted and accepted for the Best Country Song category,” BILLBOARD reports. THE 64th annual GRAMMY AWARDS are set for JANUARY 31st, 2022. Nominees will be revealed on NOVEMBER 23rd. Below is Mabe’s letter in full: October 10, 2021 Dear Harvey, I am writing as a follow up to our recent conversation about the determination to exclude Kacey Musgraves’ album star-crossed from the Grammy’s country albums category.  I am a big believer in the Grammys as an organization and have witnessed the power of its platform to transform artists’ careers and reflect, amplify and change culture. That certainly has happened for Kacey Musgraves over the last seven years with wins in 2014 for Country Album of the Year for Same Trailer Different Park, and then again in 2019 for Golden Hour as well as overall Album of the Year. The Grammy’s have been a destination of artist discovery and for Kacey it’s a place where her musical history was written. As a prime stakeholder in country music, I would really like to frame what’s happening in our genre right now and help you and the Grammy’s fully understand the importance of Kacey Musgraves to country music and why this decision is so much more than an entry point for an awards show. Taking her out of the Continue reading Kacey Musgraves’ ‘star-crossed’ Ruled Ineligible For Best Country Album Grammy

  • New Music from Zachary Williams (Of The Lone Bellow) Out October 22nd

    countrymusicnewsblog.com Monday, 11 October 2021 18:45:00

Zachary Williams (The Lone Bellow) has announced his debut solo record, Dirty Camaro out October 22nd on Dualtone Records. The album was produced by Robert Ellis and Josh Block at Niles City Sound in Fort Worth, TX and features Anderson East and Ashley Monroe, singer-songwriters John Paul White and Thad Cockrell and the gospel group Settles Connection. Today, Williams shares the first single, “Game For Guessing” which includes an appearance from the album’s producer, Texas singer-songwriter Robert Ellis. Its companion music video was directed by Debbie Ewing. Fans can pre-order Dirty Camaro today and limited edition vinyl, CD, and merch available via Dualtone. Zachary Williams on “Game For Guessing” It’s an ode to me and everyone else like me who’s pretty self involved, pretty confused, and pretty hopeful that maybe we’re actually good inside. It’s a confession that I don’t know what I’m doing, a song about that razor sharp line that we walk between being a competent, but self involved person, and being a person that’s on the verge of losing their mind at any given second. The first time Robert Ellis heard me sing this song he started dying laughing and said “I can relate”… and maybe we all can.   Zachary Williams is best known as ⅓ of the Nashville-based supergroup The Lone Bellow. All born in the South, the three members met while living in Brooklyn and quickly found that in addition to having commonality in their upbringing, they all had wildly potent voices, a knack for harmonies and a desire to write in the great Southern story-telling tradition – songs about heartbreak and struggles and the human condition. The Lone Bellow has released five studio albums with one produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Sturgil Simpson) and two produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner (Taylor Swift, Sharon Van Etten), including their most recent Half Moon Light. The pursuit of music wasn’t always a fore drawn conclusion for Williams, rather it was the colossal hammer of fate and its aftermath that led him there. He had married his childhood best friend early (as kids in the South do), and soon after their life began, barely adults themselves Stacy suffered a terrible accident falling from her horse. Paralysis was the diagnosis and Williams’ immediate answer was movement – move to New York City, move to follow their dreams, spiritually walk right out of that place. Miraculously, Stacy eventually was able to walk again but their plans were in place. Williams began playing open mics at Rockwood Music Hall, gathering a fervent fan-base leading to Bowery Ballroom sell-outs before abandoning his solo-career for The Lone Bellow. Dirty Camaro serves as a book end to that pursuit, a return to unfinished business and the solo album he always meant to write. He honors Stacy in the song “Anything” singing, “you were my first favorite day, first dream that didn’t let me sleep, first time I ever felt this way. You were my first anything.” Dirty Camaro is filled Continue reading New Music from Zachary Williams (Of The Lone Bellow) Out October 22nd
