There’s no shortage of star power on this holiday release from Red Dirt Alum Drew Cooper as he taps in Cody Canada and son Dierks Canada to provide some dueling guitar licks on “Please Come Home For Christmas” out on all streaming platforms today! Drew Cooper’s striking combination of country music grit sung with a deep-throated soulful timbre that hits like a sledgehammer has garnered him critical esteem, and a residency among the Texas music scene where your songwriting goods is your only true currency. After a 2-year gap since the release of his last album “White Horse,” Cooper returns with a special single release just ahead of his double album drop “This Life” in early 2022. This Christmas season Cooper stuns listeners with his unique version of the holiday classic “Please Come Home For Christmas” in a performance that will undoubtedly take its place as a staple on the radio airwaves from now on. The song was recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Los Angeles, CA, the same place where Cooper recorded his forthcoming album, and is produced and mixed by accomplished engineer John Lousteau (Foo Fighters, Iggy Pop and Joan Jett). This stirring rendition features an all-star team of musicians including John Lousteau on drums/percussion, Carmine Rojas on bass (David Bowie, Julian Lennon, Rod Stewart), Martine Guigui on keyboards (Billy Gibbons, Christina Aguilera Lady Gaga, Peter Frampton), and rhythm/dueling guitar leads from Red Dirt music icon Cody Canada and his 16-year-old guitar shredding son, Dierks. We went back to Studio 606 where we recorded my new album, so I felt right at home. And having these incredible players join us went far above any expectations I had. Finding a new space in the song between the original version by Charles Brown and the Eagle’s version, and being able to make it our own was amazing.” –Drew Cooper “Drew is one of the most kind people I’ve met in 27 years of being in the biz. Big heart, big voice, big talented songwriter. So honored to have been a part of this song with my kiddo, Dierks. Another great artist with a huge, giving spirit. After a COVID-related pause, the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME began to get caught up last night (11/21) with a gala ceremony inducting its class of 2020, songwriter DEAN DILLON and artist/writers MARTY STUART and HANK WILLIAMS JR. The ceremony, held at the CMA THEATER inside the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM, was highlighted by little moments, two of them involving 1997 inductee BRENDA LEE. After rising star BRITTNEY SPENCER brought the house down with her tribute to DILLON, performing his song, “TENNESSEE Whiskey,” LEE shouted out from the audience in appreciate of SPENCER, “Let’s all go home. I give up. I quit.” Later, inductee WILLIAMS drew laughs when he dropped to his knees onstage so that the diminutive LEE could place the HALL OF FAME medallion around his neck. The inductees were honored with surprise performances from several superstars, with KENNY CHESNEY and GEORGE STRAIT separately paying tribute to DILLON, and ERIC CHURCH and ALAN JACKSON each honoring WILLIAMS. Additionally, SHOOTER JENNINGS performed as part of the WILLIAMS tribute, while EMMYLOU HARRIS and CHARLIE WORSHAM joined forces in tribute to STUART, who was also honored in song by ASHLEY McBRYDE. The third performer honoring STUART was TUNICA, MS Pastor EVELYN HUBBARD, a family friend. All of the performers sang songs written by or made famous by the night’s honorees. In addition to LEE, who presented WILLIAMS with his medallion, STRAIT did the honors for DILLON, and STUART received his medallion from his wife and fellow HALL OF FAME member CONNIE SMITH. The ceremony was hosted by COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME CEO KYLE YOUNG. The HALL OF FAME’s class of 2021, members-elect EDDIE BAYERS, RAY CHARLES, PETE DRAKE and THE JUDDS, will be inducted next year.
