Watch Now: Fancy Hagood Nods To Nostalgia In Animated Video For “Bored”
countrymusicnewsblog.com Wednesday, 11 May 2022 22:35:38
Queer/pop country enigma Fancy Hagood (the artist formerly known as Who Is Fancy) releases the nostalgia-driven, whimsical video for his latest tune, “Bored.” Giving fans a colorful sneak peek into Fancy’s millennial mind, the clip takes fans on an animated trip to the trailblazing artist’s childhood. With animation akin to some of the biggest shows of the late 1990s/early 2000s, from MTV’s Daria to Beavis and Butthead, the video finds a young, cartoon version of Fancy in his bedroom, processing the world around him and nodding to the pop-culture staples that defined his upbringing – from the Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child to Tamagotchis, Miss Cleo, and Brittney Spears, whose story actually inspired second verse of the thought-provoking tune. “I used to love cartoons in the ’90s, so I wanted a Beavis and Butthead-inspired cartoon for this particular video,” Fancy explains. “This video is all about consumption and getting lost in a world where the media is just trying to sell us anything and everything… And by the way, this is just the beginning of my animated self’s journey. Stay tuned to find out what happens after my ‘gaylien’ abduction!” With the video amplifying this sentiment, “Bored” tackles the topic of perception versus reality in today’s society and serves as a commentary on the glamorized way we view the world, the image we create for ourselves and how we often hide the struggles and truth beneath. Co-written with and produced by Alysa Vanderheym (Lady A, Florida Georgia Line, One Republic, Blake Shelton), “Bored” is Inspired in part by Fancy’s own demons and serves as a cautionary tale to remain honest with yourself. Earlier this year, Fancy took on a new gig as a radio host, launching his new Apple Music Country Radio show, Trailblazers Radio, which airs by-weekly on Wednesdays on Apple Music Country at 2 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. CT and features interviews with risk-takers (like himself) who have helped break down barriers in the genre, including Kacey Musgraves, Brothers Osborne, Orville Peck and more. (Listen to his interview with Musgraves HERE.) Before joining Elle King on her “Drunk and I Don’t Wanna Go Home” tour, Fancy also dropped his exquisite ballad collab with Devon Gilfillian called “Let Me Be,” which was spotlighted on the cover of Apple Music’s New Music Daily playlist & several global Spotify New Music Friday playlists. Listen Now: Meghan Patrick “My Left Hand”
countrymusicnewsblog.com Monday, 9 May 2022 23:25:54
On May 20, Riser House Records and Warner Canada artist Meghan Patrick will tap into her softer side and celebrate her upcoming nuptials with the release of “My Left Hand.” Available today (5.6) for fans to pre-save here, the tune became a viral moment for the back-to-back CCMA Female Artist of the Year when she first previewed it on TikTok this past December — garnering more than 4.4 Million views and quickly becoming the soundtrack to hundreds of fan-created videos about their own journeys to forever. Written by Patrick alongside Heather Morgan and Thomas Salter, the thoughtful track serves as an ode to Patrick’s own love story with fellow country hitmaker and fiancé, Mitchell Tenpenny — spotlighting her rarely-seen vulnerable side, while also remaining true to Patrick’s rough and rowdy, rebel roots through unexpected lyrical twists that wouldn’t normally find their way into a wedding tune. “‘My Left Hand’ has really taken on a life of its own, and it all started on TikTok” Patrick explains. “Most of my fans are in the same phase of life that I’m in, getting engaged and settling down, so it really resonated with them from the very beginning — not to mention, after so many weddings were postponed during the height of the pandemic, this song became extra special for those couples who are finally getting the chance to walk down the aisle this year, myself included.” Announcing her engagement this past November, the 18x CMAOntario Award-winner has been busy planning her upcoming trip down the aisle, which is set to take place later this year, and she’s looking forward to turning the page on a new chapter — not only in her love life, but also in her music. “What I’m most excited for with this release is the chance to show my growth as a songwriter and really dive into a totally different side of me,” Patrick adds. “Everyone knows I love a good break-up song or drinking anthem, but it’s time to let fans see the more vulnerable Meghan, the one who’s in love and ready to say ‘I do.'” For more information on Meghan Patrick, visit meghanpatrickmusic.com
Blake Shelton And Carson Daly Team Up To Launch New Celebrity Game Show “Barmageddon”
countrymusicnewsblog.com Monday, 9 May 2022 23:17:13
Longtime staples of NBC’s THE VOICE, BLAKE SHELTON and CARSON DALY have teamed up to create a new celebrity game show for USA NETWORK called BARMAGEDDON. The two stars will executive produce the show, to be hosted by WWE HALL OF FAME member NIKKI BELLA. The show will be shot in the downtown NASHVILLE location of SHELTON’s bar chain, OLE RED, according to USA NETWORK, which says the show will “welcome a rowdy crowd for live music sing-alongs and well-loved bar games — with a twist! With DALY behind the bar and SHELTON on stage, BELLA will keep the competition fierce and set the stakes as celebrity friends go head-to-head in games such as Air Cannon Cornhole, Keg Curling, Drunken Axe Hole, Sharts (‘SHELTON Darts), and many more.” Said SHELTON in a press release, “NASHVILLE is known for great music and hospitality, which makes it the perfect setting. I’m excited about BARMAGEDDN and can’t wait for friends, old and new, to join my buddy CARSON and me for some drinks, music, and high-spirited fun at OLE RED.” Added DALY, “BLAKE, [co Executive Producer] LEE [METZGER] and I wanted to create a show where the audience can feel like they’re hanging out with us at OLE RED in NASHVILLE, having a drink and cheering on friends as they compete in the ultimate test of athleticism and endurance — bar games!” USA NETWORK reports that “each episode will see two celebrities play a unique set of five games in the bar … Besties SHELTON and DALY will provide some much-needed words of wisdom — with the occasional good-natured heckling thrown in, of course — to keep the crowd rowdy and the party going.” No word on when the show is set to debut.
Fellow Country Stars Remember Mickey Gilley
countrymusicnewsblog.com Monday, 9 May 2022 23:14:03
One week after the passing of NAOMI JUDD (NET NEWS 5/2), the Country music industry was rocked by the loss of another prominent figure when singer and actor MICKEY GILLEY died in BRANSON, MO on SATURDAY, MAY 7th at the age of 86 (NET NEWS 5/7). No cause of death was shared. GILLEY had just finished performing 10 shows in APRIL, but had posted a message to fans on social media on MAY 1st apologizing for cancelling all MAY dates at his theater in BRANSON, saying, “The last couple weeks, my energy level and some health issues have kept me from being 100% at my shows. So, I’ve been seeking doctors to get me back on track.” He also wrote, “I hope to be reenergized, healthy and back in full swing to see you at our shows soon.” GILLEY charted 46 singles between 1968 and 1989, with his career taking off in earnest in 1974 when he scored the first of what was to become 17 #1 singles, “Room Full Of Roses.” In addition to his chart-toppers, he notched 17 more Top 10 hits in his career. He dominated the ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDs in 1976, winning for both Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year, as well as Album of the Year (“Gilley’s Smoking” on PLAYBOY RECORDS) Single of the Year (“Bring It On Home”) and Song of the Year (“Don’t The Girls All Get Prettier At Closing Time”). GILLEY opened the massive GILLEY’S nightclub in PASADENA, TX in 1971 (later a chain), and appeared as himself in the 1980 film “Urban Cowboy,” which was partially shot there. That helped launch an acting career that included roles on such television series as “Murder, She Wrote,” “Fantasy Island,” “The Fall Guy” and “Dukes Of Hazzard.” He was inducted into the TEXAS COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME in 2011. Fellow Country artists, particularly those from his era, have been remembering GILLEY with tributes all weekend. JOHNNY LEE, who, like GILLEY, played himself in “Urban Cowboy,” said, “My heart will forever break over the loss of my dear friend MICKEY GILLEY. He believed in me when no one else did … He loved his fans more than anything in the world and taught me everything I needed to know about Country music.” Country legend JEANNIE SEELY said, “My heart is broken at the loss of MICKEY. I treasure all the times we got to work together, and there were never enough. He and JOHNNY LEE brought a new dimension to Country music with the ‘Urban Cowboy’ trend and brought new fans to the genre. Whether it was a boogie or a ballad, MICKEY made it his own, no matter how many times it had been done before, and it would become my favorite version. He was loved and respected, and he will be so greatly missed.” Said CRYSTAL GAYLE, “I started out my career opening for MICKEY. He was such a great person and entertainer. I have loved him ever since.” Continue reading Fellow Country Stars Remember Mickey Gilley→

The powerful offering provides another glimpse into Scott’s upcoming Livin’ My Best Life. The new record delivers a personal set filled with the backroads, barstools, church pews and relationships that defined the Louisiana native’s youth. The singer/songwriter co-penned eight of the album’s sixteen selections, whose credits boast an all-star lineup of writers like Morgan Wallen, Tyler Hubbard, Brian Kelley, Thomas Rhett, HARDY, and more. Notable highlights include fiery heartbreak single “New Truck,” No. 1 hit “Nobody,” and recent TikTok viral smash “Can’t Have Mine (Find You A Girl).” Last week, the hitmaker wrapped his spring leg of the “Livin’ My Best Life Tour,” with direct support from Dylan Marlowe. The 22-city coast-to-coast headlining trek saw Scott bring his full-throttle energy to a mix of fan favorites, as well as new tracks from his forthcoming collection.
