  • Tweets Discovered Between Brett Kavanaugh's High School Friend Mark Judge and Infamous Far Right Troll Chuck C. Johnson | Thu, 20 Sep 2018 12:15:59 PDT

Mark Judge, the high school drinking buddy of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, is now known to have published an article at the blog of notorious Holocaust denier Chuck C. Johnson (who is NOT ME). Judge's article was an attempt to cast doubt on the woman who was the subject of Rolling Stone's now-retracted article about an alleged gang rape at UVA -- written long before Rolling Stone's retraction.

(It makes perfect sense that Chuck C. Johnson would want to publish this sort of piece, because he's long been obsessed with smearing and doxing rape victims.)

Mark Judge himself is now accused of taking part in the alleged sexual assault by Kavanaugh of Christine Blasey Ford, who is now a professor at the University of Palo Alto. According to the Washington Post:

Ford said she was able to escape when Kavanaugh’s friend and classmate at Georgetown Preparatory School, Mark Judge, jumped on top of them, sending all three tumbling.

Today I was given a tip about a cache of tweets between Mark Judge and Chuck C. Johnson that contain some very interesting comments in light of these accusations, and illustrate the connections between the neo-fascist far right and people like Judge who maintained a "journalist" facade by writing for outlets like the Daily Caller.

These tweets come from Chuck C. Johnson's long deleted Twitter archive; a few days ago Johnson abruptly shut down both his Facebook page and his GotNews website, with no explanation. But his personal website is still online and one of the sections is a copy of all his tweets, going back to 2009. (Don't be surprised if this disappears too, after I publish this article.)

So here are the tweets in question, starting with Chuck reaching out to Judge when he hears about Judge's piece attacking the Rolling Stone article. (They're in text form because Johnson's Twitter account was permanently suspended, of course. And Mark Judge has now also deleted his entire Twitter account.)

Most of these are retweets; Johnson retweeted Mark Judge many times. Among other subjects, Judge pushes articles he wrote titled "Why Are Men Committing Suicide?" and "Women Who Emotionally Abuse Men," and links to a video at Vimeo (now deleted) showing "Chuck C. Johnson in bed with bikini models."

There's no smoking gun related to the current controversy here, but it shines a bright light on the kind of people in Brett Kavanaugh's inner circle and the toxic "men's rights" culture they were steeped in, and shows why the GOP doesn't want Judge to testify.

    Hozier Store :

I’m very proud to present the video for 'Nina Cried Power', directed by Jon Hozier-Byrne and Patrick Ryan.

This song was intended as a thank you note to the spirit and legacy of protest; to the artists who imbued their work with the vigour of dissent, and a reflection on the importance of that tradition in the context of the rights, and lives, we enjoy today. My hope for this video is much the same.

Ireland has undergone a socio-cultural sea change, the results of which will benefit generations to come. We are witness to a new Ireland waking to the consciousness of itself; a kinder, more inclusive nation. This video is an attempt to acknowledge just a handful of those who have fought for this new Ireland, and whose work continues to inspire me.

Thank you to Christina Noble, for showing the limitlessness of human kindness, and its ability to achieve the seemingly impossible.

Thank you to Bernadette McAliskey and Eamon McCann, who fought for the bitterly-resisted equal right to vote, and who bore witness to atrocity and would not be silenced.

Thank you to Joe Caslin, who literally coated Dublin city itself with reflections on our capacity for compassion as a people.

Thank you to Saoirse Long, whose honesty revealed not only our own failures as a people, but laid bare the true face of what barred the way of progress for women’s reproductive rights.

Thank you to Panti Bliss, who remains a leading voice advocating for inclusion, and a standard-bearer for the new Ireland we are watching unfold.

Thank you to Victoria Chimera for fighting tirelessly for equal opportunities in education.

Thank you to Anna Cosgrave, who provided real leadership to my generation, and brought new widespread visibility to the issue of reproductive rights.

Thank you to Simone George for her indelible spirit, and for fighting injustice in its many forms.

Thank you to Grace Dyas whose decisions in work and life give to us an example of bravery and conscience.

Thank you to Sinéad Burke for pushing tirelessly for inclusivity in her industry and beyond.

Thank you to Maria Walsh for using her platform to promote gender equality, and the right for everyone to love who they love.

Thank you to Colm O’Gorman, for his unwavering dedication to human rights and his fearless speaking of truth to power.

Thank you to Ellie Kisyombe for reminding us of the meaning of home.

Thank you to Stephen Rea for the work he does both for UNICEF, and for Ireland itself.

Thank you to Sam Blanckensee for their important work on gender recognition legislation.

Thank you to Florence Adebambo and Aaron Edo for reminding us of the bright future that awaits those who have joined us from afar, and how that future needs to be fought for.

Thank you to Blessings Moyo and Lucky Khambule for reminding us how much further we have to go, and how we must strive to do better.

Thank you to Mavis Staples, for giving to the world a timeless example of how worthwhile the raising of one’s voice is, in song and in protest.

Thank you to you all for your work, for joining us on set and allowing us to play you the song for the first time. You are all truly inspirational figures, and this video is for you.

  • The Corrupt Republican Plot to Maintain Control of Government | Tue, 18 Sep 2018 11:05:13 PDT

Good analysis by Brian Beutler: The Corrupt Republican Plot to Maintain Control of Government.

Facing the real prospect that their long-sought fifth anti-abortion Supreme Court justice might go unseated, and President Trump’s growing legal exposure, the Republican Party is charging into election season with a two-fronted disinformation campaign, in a desperate effort to salvage conservative control not just of the Court, but of Congress and the White House as well.

Specifically, they are maximizing confusion about whether Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted a 15 year old girl when he and she were both high school students, and about the legitimacy of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. And they are advancing both goals with naked abuses of power.

  • The Real Purveyors of Fake News: Gateway Pundit and Other Right Wing Propagandists Smear Wrong Person to Defend Brett Kavanaugh | Mon, 17 Sep 2018 12:12:22 PDT

Garbage blog Gateway Pundit currently has six posts smearing and attacking the woman who's accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of attempted rape, including this one -- citing student reviews of the wrong person: Kavanaugh Accuser Is Unhinged Liberal Professor who Former Students Describe as Dark, Mad, Scary and Troubled.

As Matt Gertz points out, the right wing idiots circulating this smear -- and Gateway Pundit dirtbag Jim Hoft was joined by Mark Levin and Laura Ingraham because they attack in packs -- are using reviews for a different Christine Ford.

Christine Blasey Ford is a research psychologist who teaches clinical psychology at Palo Alto University and in a consortium with Stanford University, according to The Washington Post. Kavanaugh’s defenders are citing student reviews for Christine A. Ford, who taught in the social work department at California State University-Fullerton. The Grabienews story has since been retracted.

As I write this, Hoft has not retracted or corrected this false story. "Fake news," if you will.

This is no mistake; these despicable people do this every single time when they need to attack one of their perceived enemies. This is pure, deliberate malice. They know that even if they're forced to correct a false story, the right wing base has already taken it and run with it.

Jim Hoft is already facing two lawsuits for exactly this kind of defamation, but that clearly isn't stopping him.

UPDATE at 9/17/18 12:44:27 pm by Charles Johnson

Hoft has now removed all mentions of student reviews, changed the post's title to "Kavanaugh Accuser Is Unhinged Liberal Professor in California (Updated)," and added this "update" at the very bottom of the post, many hours after it was published.

UPDATE — An earlier post referenced Ford as an unpopular professor but we have since learned this was a different educator with the same name.

Notice that Hoft's headline still describes Prof. Ford as an "unhinged liberal" with no evidence whatsoever.

  • California Professor Goes Public, Speaks Out About Sexual Assault Allegation Against Brett Kavanaugh: "I Thought He Might Kill Me" | Sun, 16 Sep 2018 11:16:00 PDT

Will this derail Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination?

Or will we witness -- yet again -- an amoral, power-hungry Republican Party ramming through his confirmation anyway?

Speaking publicly for the first time, Ford said that one summer in the early 1980s, Kavanaugh and a friend — both “stumbling drunk,” Ford alleges — corralled her into a bedroom during a gathering of teenagers at a house in Montgomery County.

While his friend watched, she said, Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed on her back and groped her over her clothes, grinding his body against hers and clumsily attempting to pull off her one-piece bathing suit and the clothing she wore over it. When she tried to scream, she said, he put his hand over her mouth.

“I thought he might inadvertently kill me,” said Ford, now a 51-year-old research psychologist in northern California. “He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.”

Ford said she was able to escape when Kavanaugh’s friend and classmate at Georgetown Preparatory School, Mark Judge, jumped on top of them, sending all three tumbling. She said she ran from the room, briefly locked herself in a bathroom and then fled the house.

This was an incredibly brave step for Professor Ford to take, because she undoubtedly knew what kind of harassment and threats will now be coming her way from the army of deranged Trump cultists.

Oh... and by the way, Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge has written at least one piece attacking a rape victim for Holocaust denier Chuck C. Johnson's blog, too.

  • A Great New Track by Jill Sobule: "I Don't Wanna Wake Up" | Sat, 15 Sep 2018 11:12:40 PDT

Jill Sobule - I Don't Wanna Wake Up (Official video)

    Written with Robin Eaton
    From “Nostalgia Kills” Pinko Records

    Video by Atypical Beings.

This song was written after a shitty breakup. I was also still morning the loss of my mom who had passed six months before. I was recommended a therapist who proscribed some antidepressants that had bad side effects. I was nonplussed. Around that time, I kept reading the benefits of psychedelics and micro-dosing. This was not from my stoner or hippie friends, but from serious periodicals and the New York Times. If the Times said I could do it, then that was good enough for me. I had done mushrooms a few times in my youth and always had a good time. By the way, the first time I did mushrooms was in 8th grade to go see Alice Cooper’s “Billion Dollar Baby”. Good choice.

I started writing these stream-of-consciousness type lyrics as I was starting to come down from my trip. Before, it would have been difficult to figure out where I had placed my notebooks and pens.

It was a biblical experience, not meaning anything extraordinary or spiritual happened, but rather I thought about, for some reason, Old (and New) Testament stories and themes: loss, mortality, my lack of faith, and yes the promise of starting over.

Oh my lord, I think I saw the light
It was in the kitchen blinking oh so bright
And standing there was an angel making angel dust
She said go grab your blanket and you can come with us.
I don't wanna wake up, I don't wanna wake up, I don't wanna wake up

Oh my lord, I think I've been redeemed
To tell the honest truth always wanted to believe
Now, I'm flying, flying through the sky
There's snakes down there below me, but they can't jump this high
I don't wanna wake up, I don't wanna wake up, I don't wanna wake up

I sang with wise Old Solomon
    I sang his dirty song
I met with Cain and Abel
    And we all got along
I blew that horn with Joshua
    The wall came tumbling down
I wrapped my blanket round me dug that crazy sound
I don't wanna wake up, I don't wanna wake up, I don't wanna wake up

Crossed the river Jorden, back down to Silver Lake.
When I arise will I be reborn or wake up with a bad headache
But for now, I hear the voices
Of the ones that I hold dear
In my slumber there’s nothing left to fear
I don't wanna wake up, I don't wanna wake up, I don't wanna wake up

  • Mother Jones Catches GOP Congressmen Dana Rohrabacher and Matt Gaetz Hanging Out With Holocaust Denier Chuck C. Johnson AGAIN | Thu, 13 Sep 2018 11:31:30 PDT

In the Trump era, Republican politicians no longer have any compunctions about associating with the absolute dregs of the political landscape. Today's case in point, from David Corn at Mother Jones: Two Republican Congressmen Hobnob With an Alleged Holocaust Denier. Again.

(LGF's coverage of Chuck C. Johnson's noxious career is featured prominently.)

A Republican congressman who earlier this year got into trouble for hobnobbing with an accused Holocaust denier held a small fundraiser this summer, and the attendees included, yes, the very same alleged Holocaust denier. Also at the event was another GOP congressman who, too, had previously been criticized for associating with this fellow.

In January, Rep. Matt Gaetz, a conservative Republican firebrand from Florida, invited right-wing troll Charles C. Johnson to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech. Johnson, a notorious social media figure accused of being a white nationalist, had been permanently banned from Twitter for declaring that he wanted to “take out” a leader of Black Lives Matter. And in early 2017, Johnson had come under fire for denying the Holocaust. During an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit’s alt-right section, Johnson had been queried, “what are your thoughts on the Holocaust, WW2, and the JQ in general?” (“JQ” is neo-Nazi shorthand for the Jewish Question.) Johnson replied, “I do not and never have believed the six million figure. I think the Red Cross numbers of 250,000 dead in the camps from typhus are more realistic. I think the Allied bombing of Germany was a ware [sic] crime. I agree…about Auschwitz and the gas chambers not being real.”

Eventually, the controversy over Johnson attending the State of the Union passed. But two months ago, Gaetz and Johnson were together again—this time on a yacht in Newport Beach, California. The occasion was a July 20 fundraiser for Gaetz’s reelection campaign. According to people familiar with the event, Johnson was among the group on the boat. And Rohrabacher was there, too. The event was being held in Rohrabacher’s district, and Rohrabacher spoke on behalf of Gaetz.

Referring to Johnson’s presence at the event, Jason Pitkin, Rohrabacher’s campaign finance director, who attended the fundraiser, tells Mother Jones, “I don’t remember who invited him there.” Asked whether Johnson had come at the invitation of Gaetz, Kip Talley, the chief of staff for Gaetz’s reelection campaign, replied in an email, “It was a private event and you’re welcome to check the FEC reports to see who donated. Thanks for reaching out.”

Johnson declined multiple requests for comment.

My only nit to pick with this article is that we can drop "alleged" from the "Holocaust denier" description, since Johnson (who is NOT ME) made these comments publicly, more than once.

  • Donald Trump Blatantly Fabricates a Quote by President Obama (w/ Video Proof) | Mon, 10 Sep 2018 12:40:09 PDT

So today, Donald Trump tweeted what he represented as a quote from President Obama, to boast about the new GDP numbers that are mostly due to President Obama.

I hope you aren't too surprised, but that "quote" was completely fabricated.

Here's the video clip, queued up to the section where Obama makes his "magic wand" comment.

When somebody says, like the person you just mentioned who I'm not gonna advertise for, that he's gonna bring all these jobs back. Well, how exactly are you gonna do that, what are you gonna do? There's no answer to it -- he just says, I'm gonna, I'm gonna negotiate a better deal. How exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually the answer is ... he doesn't have an answer.

As you can see for yourself, Obama wasn't talking about the GDP here. He was talking about Trump's claim that he's going to "bring back jobs," and he didn't even refer to Trump by name.

The only words in Trump's tweet that he didn't make up out of thin air were "magic wand." This is not how quotes work.

The current president of the US is a shameless, inveterate liar.

Oh, and by the way -- he was also lying about his GDP claim, of course.

One of my favorite new bands, the two Long Island brothers who make up the Lemon Twigs mix pop music with Who-style rock, Todd Rundgren eclecticism and goofy musical theater, and make it work beautifully.

  • An Amazing Piece by Antoine Dufour on a Gorgeous Guitar: "30 Minutes in London" - «The Tree» Guitar | Sun, 09 Sep 2018 12:20:07 PDT

Here's me playing a song called 30 Minutes in London on a Beauregard OM guitar belonging to Jamie who has ordered this wonderful custom guitar with the back and sides made from «The Tree», a very special Mahogany. I recorded this with Ernie Ball Aluminum/Bronze strings, no pickup used and using an MS microphone placement: Royer R10 as M and a Charter Oak E700 as the S.
