    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Wed, 12 Sep 2018 04:12:57 +0000

As a personal trainer in the fitness industry, it’s pretty hard to separate myself from thinking about fitness and nutrition since it’s the world I live in. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but over the years as I dug into which foods are more nutritious and learned the benefits of regular physical movement and exercise, I’ve found it’s easy to get sucked down different rabbit holes that can lead to obsessive behavior and/or thinking. I’ve shared on the blog before that I’m so grateful God has spared me from eating disorders, but I have definitely had phases of disordered thinking when it comes to my nutrition, fitness and lifestyle. From weighing myself several times a day to tracking my macros; from running to “burn off” indulgent meals to saying “no” to sugary foods, I’ve certainly had my share of unbalanced behaviors in this area. It’s almost embarrassing to write that all out, given the way I now live and my more relaxed approach to these things, but it’s true, and I know so many people – women, specifically – who live in chains to their body and body image – have been there before. I think it’s very […]

  • Adventuring Through 9 – make that 10 – Months

    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Mon, 10 Sep 2018 03:52:31 +0000

Hello, blogging world! It has been a while since I’ve sat down and blogged. I’ve definitely been on social media – I’ve be sharing quite a bit over on Instagram as I love the daily stories and sharing more detailed thoughts in the posts on my feed! It’s short, sweet and I connect with more people there than via a blog post. But, I thought it’d be fun to sit down, share some thoughts, and post a few photos from our summer as I reflect on not only the warm months that are slowly drifting away but also the first few months of Abigail’s life. I’m just over nine months ten months postpartum (this post has clearly been in my draft section for a while) and trying to figure out how almost a year has already passed! Nine months of Abi growing and developing inside the womb and ten months of this little girl living on the outside, growing and developing in different ways! From growing in my womb, no idea who was inside there…to playing on the outside!  Baby burrito down at the weir on a smoky but hot summer night!   Sneaky, Abs, sneaky 😉 I’m grateful that I loved […]

  • What You REALLY Need to be Healthy

    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Tue, 24 Apr 2018 14:44:11 +0000

Hey guys! Long time no blog – but how many times have I started a blog post like that before? 😉 I’m enjoying being active over on Instagram daily and Facebook occasionally, but I haven’t felt like I’ve had much to blog about these days. Don’t get me wrong – I’m loving life, but it’s pretty much the same most days: Wake up slowly between 6 and 7 am when Abi wakes (a luxury!) Greet the babe (always so happy in the morning!) Make coffee and enjoy with Mikey before he gets to work (it’s PhD time!), eventually breakfast Off with Abi for an adventure – coffee with a friend, a parent/baby class, errands, a workout at the gym, etc Home for lunch, working Abi’s naps around whatever we’re up to that day Make some dinner, hang out with Mikey and the babe Abi goes to bed around 8 pm and Mikey and I watch a show most often or read Bed around 11 pm (working on making this earlier)! So, although some days include different activities than others, if I’m not already sharing about it on Instagram, there’s just not that much very blog-worthy to share! But you guys, […]

  • Not In a Hurry

    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Thu, 01 Feb 2018 05:30:42 +0000

“I’m not in a hurry when it comes to your spirit, when it comes to your presence, when it comes to your voice. I’m learning to listen, just to rest in your nearness, I’m starting to notice you are speaking.” – Will Regan What a journey it is to slow down, to rest, to notice – in every area of life: physically post-injury, post-baby or just during day-to-day busyness; mentally with over-stimulated minds; spiritually as we are often distracted on all fronts. But this last weekend I had the chance – and at times was forced – to slow down and take it all in, and when I stumbled upon this song to which the lyrics above belong, it’s got me thinking about slowing down and listening to God spiritually too. (Isn’t it interesting how one area of learning in life bleeds over into others?) A year ago, Mikey and I sat in a small hut on Christmas Eve eating our backcountry “Christmas Dinner” meal after several days of some of the best backcountry skiing of our lives. We were pumped up and tired – the good kind after physical exertion and fun outdoors – but also felt hollow inside, […]

  • Postpartum Body Image

    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Fri, 15 Dec 2017 00:35:21 +0000

Hello from a gorgeous, sunny stretch of weather in Calgary! Our December weather has been incredible – not awesome if you want to ski, but with a newborn and only going for walks right now, I can’t complain – it’s been warm and mild and I’m loving it. The weather is getting me ready for our Christmas trip – we’re headed to California and Hawaii next week! – and we’re beginning to turn our attention to traveling. We are pumped to travel with Abby for the first time and to introduce her to family, the West Coast, and dip her toes in the ocean and sand. It’s going to be a blast! As I’ve been packing for Abigail and for me, it hit me – I’m going to need a new bathing suit to accommodate my new body. BUT… it hasn’t crossed my mind that I will be in a bathing suit 2.5 months after giving birth – it was more like something I just needed to pack. And that’s an incredible thing to me that I haven’t been dwelling on or even thinking about my body in a bathing suit in Hawaii. I shared recently on Instagram stories (I […]

  • What I Learned From My First Mom’s Group

    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Thu, 07 Dec 2017 04:16:12 +0000

This week, I went to my first moms group. I’m extremely blessed to have a great community of women and moms around me from friends who have had kids before me to moms I just met through the gym, in online Facebook groups, or via Instagram. There’s a great network of women I’ve met online who either have been an awesome support to me through short messages sent back and forth or who have become real-life friends after meeting online – how cool is that? So although I have a community I can connect with, I decided to go to a new group whom I’d never met and see what a real “moms group” was all about. Get ready for a reflective post ahead… Here are a few things I learned, in no particular order at all: Being anonymous was great. It was kind of neat to not really know anyone and just walk in to be part of the group! No expectations – and not that my friends put expectations on me, but perhaps I feel as though I’m already playing a certain role that I should fulfill. It’s great to be in a place where moms and kids […]

  • The Fourth Trimester

    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Mon, 04 Dec 2017 01:43:41 +0000

I cannot believe it, but this weekend Abigail turned 6 weeks old, which means 6 weeks ago I gave birth, in our home, to our favorite little human. Man alive – time flies! Now that I’m more or less out of the haze of those first few weeks and we’re finding our routine and rhythm, I am beginning to move into the fourth trimester of pregnancy, the first few months of postpartum living. It’s that time where I’m definitely not pregnant but also no where near back to “normal,” body-wise or life-wise, nor will I ever be because I have a new normal now! But I thought I’d reflect on what I’m doing now to help me live well day to day. So… What I’ve been doing to help promote recover/live well in my first 6 weeks postpartum: Weekly Chiropractor Visits: I am so grateful for the team at Human Potential 360! They have been awesome pre-pregnancy, during my pregnancy and now postpartum as my body, while definitely not pregnant anymore, is also definitely not like how it used to be! I have far less muscle tone (which is okay and to be expected!), I’ve been sitting more, and I […]

  • Newborn Photo Shoot + Holiday Fun!

    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Tue, 28 Nov 2017 00:24:19 +0000

Hey guys! It seems like blog updates are far and few between lately, but I have some fun reviews and updates coming soon for you – it’s just taking me longer to get to them these days! In the meantime, how about some fun pictures? Before Abigail gets too old (I know she’s only just over 5 weeks but this little one is growing so fast and looking less and less like a newborn!), I wanted to share some of the photos that our good friend, Chantal from Paisley Photography, took a few weeks ago! She shared her photo picks plus our story on her blog post here, and now I’m sharing just a few of our favorites below. (Thanks for capturing so much joy and those first few weeks for us, Chantal!) Abigail’s small room is now exploded with her clothes – so many hand-me-downs which is awesome, but I have so much to organize and go through! Her room was clean for just a moment. 😉 Those little lips! We sure love life with this little one! Very grateful for friends who take amazing photos that have truly captured this journey for us. Our weeks have been filled […]

  • The First Few Days…

    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Sun, 05 Nov 2017 22:18:59 +0000

It’s hard to believe it’s been 2 weeks since Abigail was born! Yesterday (Saturday) marks that time frame and it feels both slow and fast at the same time, like Abby’s always been here and yet like the last two weeks have been full of extra hours in each day. We are adjusting to a new routine and I think it’s going pretty great considering it’s such a huge and instant life change! Here’s what the first bit of time has looked like… After Abby was born, we had several hours just the three of us, soaking her in and enjoying her before we FaceTimed our parents to share the fun news (she was born on my mom’s 60th birthday!). Mikey’s parents came over for a visit the next day and then about every other day as we hunkered down and embraced rest and the new normal. The time with just Mikey, Abby and I was beautiful and we were definitely on an adrenaline high for probably 3 days! soaking up some sun on our porch with Abby on day 2! We often listen to movie soundtracks on Spotify at home, and after listening to so many epic songs we […]

  • Abigail Nahanni Lang: curiosity & confidence

    bonnielangfitness.com/blog-bf | Fri, 27 Oct 2017 19:31:42 +0000

After a pregnancy filled with anticipation and excitement, we are so thrilled to share that Abigail Nahanni Lang, our little miracle babe, was born on Saturday, October 21st at home in Inglewood! It’s almost Saturday and hard to believe that it’s been a week already – time has been both flying by and standing still – and we are so in love with this little one! Before too much time passed, I wanted to share her birth story; every birth story is an amazing one when there’s a healthy mama and babe on the other side, and I’m so grateful for that outcome with our little Abby. (Note: nothing graphic in terms of pictures but definitely detail and lots of photos ahead as this is a way for me to journey this huge moment in our lives, as well!) 🙂 It all started Friday night, when, after working out but struggling to do so, I came home and felt slow – heavy, tired, and like I just didn’t want to leave the house. The options for my evening were prenatal yoga or a likely last movie date with Mikey, and while both sounded so good, I told my yoga teacher […]
