Genre: Oldies Music
Betrieb in niederländischen Gewässern Am 22. W. Lüthy was founded by two Swiss Erwin Meister and Edwin Bollier and started on 23 January 1970. With test broadcasts on FM from a former cargo ship, the "Silvretta" (570 tons), which was in the name of "Mebo 2" renamed (according to the owners, and Bo-Me-ister llier) The originally planned "Mebo 1", a converted Norwegian coast guard ship (former (Bjarkøy), proved to be too small and stormy North Sea served as a tender future. Operating in Dutch waters On 22 January 1970 left the "Mebo 2" the port of Rotterdam, and anchored outside the three-mile zone off the coast of Noordwijk. On 28 Launched in February 1970 with the theme song, "Man of Action" by Les Reed, the official broadcasting in German and English on AM, FM and 1610 KHz, 102 MHz. RNI broadcast 18 hours a day modern pop and rock music. Thanks to strong AM station (105 kW) achieved not only the whole of the Netherlands and Belgium, but large parts of northwest Germany and southern England. Within a week, received the Zurich headquarters of approximately 50,000 letters from enthusiastic listeners. End of March 1970, the two Mebo left the coast of Holland, and anchored off the coast of England in international waters at Clacton-on-Sea. Change in British waters In April 1970 began the Labour government, who also signed the "Anti-Pirate-Law", show the frequencies of RNI to massively with jammers. RNI then supported the Conservatives in the election campaign. The Tories won the election, but the jammers (jamming) and were only stopped when the Mebo 2 in July 1970, again off the Dutch coast off Scheveningen dropped anchor. It arson followed by a Dutch nightclub owner and several frequency changes due to State of alarms alleged sender. Intermediate transmission pause and final end Against a "hush money" from 1000 000 Fl by competitors "Radio Veronica" RNI ceased in October 1970. After repayment of the amount of "Radio Veronica" the items were taken in February 1971 with an Anglo-Dutch program again. Another bombing on 15 May 1971 on the Mebo 2 - the sender and the Mebo 2 could be saved just yet - prompted the Dutch government to ratify also the "Anti-Pirate-Law" (Marine Offence Act). Anchor fractures and serious damage to the 52m high masts by North Sea from 1973 hurricanes led to frequent transmission failures. Additionally burdened RNI allegations convey according to closedown on behalf of the Ministry for State Security of the GDR coded messages. Given the threat of closure by the Dutch government RNI started in July 1973, a legalization campaign - but in vain: for in the night 1 September 1974 had the transmit mode (as well as at Radio Veronica) be finally adjusted. Whereabouts of sending ships After a thorough restoration In 1976, its radio ship be sold in 1977 to Italy and go off the Italian coast at Genoa as "Radio Nova" back on the air. Failed these plans and both vessels Mebo 1 and the Mebo 2, now in "Almasira" and "Al Fatah" renamed, were sold to Libya and submitted from 1978 to 1983 religious programs for the "Revolutionary Army" of Muammar Khadafi . In 1984, she was sunk in the Gulf of Sidra by the Libyan navy.
